Following the revelations made by Jada Pinkett Smith in her upcoming memoir, Will Smith has finally made a statement.
In addition to discussing her separated relationship with the actor, Jada disclosed that the two had discreetly broken up seven years before. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air actor remained silent in the days that followed Jada’s disclosures, but he has since spoken out in a revealing email response.
Jada continues to promote her book while spilling even more of her secrets in an interview with the New York Times. Will then added his thoughts to his wife’s analysis of the matter.
According to reports, he said Jada’s story had “kind of woken him up” in an email reaction to the publication. Will has learned that Jada is more “resilient, clever and compassionate than he’d understood,” the site quoted him as saying in their article.
He went on to say: “When you’ve been with someone for more than half of your life, a sort of emotional blindness sets in, and you can all too easily lose your sensitivity to their hidden nuances and subtle beauties.”
Jada said in recent confessions that she and Will haven’t called each other husband and wife in “a long time.” During an interview with Hoda Kotb, she is heard claiming she was “really worried” about the I Am Legend star, 55, because she didn’t know what was going on at the Oscars when he stormed the stage and smacked Chris Rock after a below-the-belt remark.
She also said it was “ridiculous how far it went” as people accused her of telling Will to react to Chris. “But I also understood at the same time,” she confessed. “Considering the false narrative that I had cheated on Will or I was like some adulteress, Will had never done that before,” she added.

Jada continued: “I think that when we just look at human nature… when you look at the breadcrumbs, people need something to blame. And so people not knowing what was happening behind the scenes, I surely wasn’t surprised that I got blamed.”
While the couple appears to have no plans to divorce, Jada, 52, stated in a Facebook Live session that the couple would always be “family.” When asked if there would ever be a chance for the couple to reunite, she responded no: “You know Will and I, we are family. I know we have talked about, with the Today show was this big separation, and we had been separated.
“And you guys didn’t know it because we didn’t feel like it was something to share because we were trying to figure out what that meant. Will and I have been doing a lot of healing together. We have made our way into this interdependence and this beautiful loving space between us. And we are family and we are figuring it out.”
The separated couple married in 1997 and have two children: Jaden, 25, and Willow, 22. Smith and ex-wife Sheree Zampino also have a son, Trey, 30.
