Vin Diesel, who plays Groot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, announced his return following the conclusion of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
James Gunn wrapped up his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy in May, bringing the beloved group to a close but leaving the possibilities open for future adventures.
Drax and Nebula on Knowhere, Gamora as a Ravager, the Legendary Star-Lord‘s return, and a next-generation Guardians team starring Adam Warlock, Cosmo the SpaceDog, and Phyla are a few highlights.
Vin Diesel Returning as Groot
I Am Groot Season 2 will premiere on Disney+ on Wednesday, September 6th, affirming Vin Diesel’s return to the role.
This comes after the conclusion of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which featured a new team, this time commanded by Alpha Groot.
Diesel previously hinted to a future Groot story, indicating “the return to Planet X” in an interview with ComicBook:
“If you’re talking to [Marvel Studios boss Kevin] Feige on Saturday, you can ask him about the Groot story that he’s excited about; the return to Planet X.”
After celebrating the first season of I Am Groot, Diesel wrote in a caption on Instagram, “No wonder Marvel wants to make the Planet X movie:”

What Is Groot’s Future in the MCU?
Vin Diesel has been voicing Groot in various shapes, sizes, and ages since 2014. While Baby Groot has been a lot of fun, it was good to hear the deep, Diesel voice again in Guardians 3.
Fans may be drawn to a Planet X film or a Disney+ production, especially if Marvel is considering future story-telling with Guardians of the Galaxy team members.
Groot comes from Planet X, the primary center of the branch worlds where Flora Colossi lives.
Don’t confuse this with another Marvel Planet X comic book focusing on Magneto, the New X-Men, and a tragic Jean Gray movie ending.
The fact that Vol. 3 left the door open for future Groot stories should be enough proof for fans to expect a project beyond I Am Groot to happen, especially with Vin Diesel on board.
I Am Groot Season 2 premieres Wednesday, September 6.
