The premiere date for Haunted Mansion on Disney+ has been confirmed, and it’s coming sooner than you might think.
According to a tweet from the official Disney+ account, Haunted Mansion will be available on the Disney streaming service on October 4.
The tweet included a featured photograph of the film’s cast as well as the caption “Welcome foolish mortals #HauntedMansion appears October 4 on #DisneyPlus.”
The film received mixed-to-positive reviews, with many praising its sense of humour while others criticizing its summer release date when a Halloween release would have been a better choice.
Steve Weintraub of Collider tweeted: “Happy to report #HauntedMansion is one of those family films that will spook kids, make adults laugh (a lot), and fans of the ride will keep pointing at the screen because it’s loaded with Easter eggs. Director Justin Simien & screenwriter Katie Dippold did great work.”

Meanwhile, the film’s Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score is 38%, with the site’s critical consensus reading “Haunted Mansion’s talented cast makes the movie a pleasant enough destination, although it’s neither scary nor funny enough to wholeheartedly recommend.” The audience score, on the other hand, is kinder, at 84%.
One of the most delightful aspects of the film is identifying the numerous Easter eggs scattered throughout the plot, with filmmaker Simien recently disclosing one hidden detail that many audiences overlook. This detail is inspired by the painting from the ride, in which a woman appears to age as you move closer to the painting.
“There’s a painting on the wall of the séance room that people don’t really notice, It’s the painting of the woman who ages slowly as you walk by her, and, if you look at that painting throughout the film, she ages as you get closer to the end of the film,” reveals Simien.
“But, we never really call it out, we never really zoomed in on it. Gradually, through the film, she gets older, just like she does on the ride.”
Haunted Mansion will be available on Disney+ on October 4.
