After years of having her body and sexuality scrutinized, Billie Eilish is speaking up about her experience as a woman.
In a recent interview for Variety’s The Power of Women issue, the 21-year-old diva opened up about her attraction to women and how she views herself as a woman.

Billie Eilish told the source that she has battled with her appearance and identity because she has “never felt desired or desirable.” For years, Eilish almost exclusively wore baggy clothes that covered her form.
“I’ve never felt like a woman, to be honest with you. I’ve never felt desirable. I’ve never felt feminine,” revealed Eilish. “I have to convince myself that I’m, like, a pretty girl.”
The singer of “Bad Guy” explained her preferred pronouns, saying, “I identify as ‘she/her’ and things like that, but I’ve never really felt like a girl.”
The Grammy winner clarified that her complicated feelings about her own womanhood have long caused her to believe that other women dislike her. “I’ve never really felt like I could relate to girls very well,” she shared.
Although Eilish disputes that idea, she admits to being “attracted to” other women. “I love [women] so much. I love them as people. I’m attracted to them as people. I’m attracted to them for real,” she said.
“I have deep connections with women in my life, the friends in my life, the family in my life,” the singer-songwriter continued. “I’m physically attracted to them. But I’m also so intimidated by them and their beauty and their presence.”
Though Eilish told Variety that her relationship history and sexuality have been “weird and upsetting,” she has previously been rather private about her personal life due to the intense scrutiny she has undergone around these subjects.
Billie Eilish says men don’t face criticism about their bodies because girls are nice:
“Nobody ever says a thing about men’s bodies. If you’re muscular, cool. If you’re not, cool. If you’re rail thin, cool. If you have a dad bod, cool. If you’re pudgy, love it! Everybody’s happy… pic.twitter.com/xaihWNyjE3

The singer and Jesse Rutherford of the alternative band The Neighbourhood were last romantically linked in October 2022. The two singers had split in May, after dating for eight months, a source told PEOPLE, adding that they “remain good friends.”
Eilish previously dated actor Matthew Tyler Vorce for a little over a year, from April 2021 to May 2022. In her Apple TV+ documentary Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry, she also discussed dating and splitting up with Brandon Adams, a rapper who goes by the stage name 7:AMP.
The “What Was I Made For?” singer has already expressed her dissatisfaction with how the media and audiences have approached her sexuality.
During a 2021 interview with Elle, Eilish mentioned online discussions she’s seen about her dating past and style. She then jumped in, saying, “Or my sexuality!”
“Like, oh yeah, that’s everyone else’s business, right? No. Where’s that energy with men?” she continued. “I just wanted to make a song once, and then I kept making songs. I never said, ‘Hey, pay attention to my life.’”
